Dave was raised in charming Central Minnesota, the youngest of seven charming children.
Almost every year his parents would load up their '66 Chevy Impala station wagon and travel somewhere in the USA or Canada. Dave often had to sit in the far-back seat which faced out the back window. He likes to think that this helped to develop his odd way of looking at life, and thus began his love of traveling. And he got a fair idea of distance as well. Dave occasionally encounters people who have no idea just how big the USA is.
His family didn't have a TV for a long time, and when they did, they weren't allowed to watch it very much. Dave has a vivid memory of watching two events which have stuck with him; Neil Armstrong setting foot on the moon, and President Nixon's resignation. Dave also remembers watching old comedies on Sunday mornings; Laurel and Hardy, L'il Rascals, The Marx Bros. and a few others. He recalls his dad laughing until he cried at the antics of Stan and Ollie.
At the age of seven, Dave had a few baritone ukulele lessons from a nun. As soon as his fingers were long enough, Dave moved up to a full-size guitar and he started writing his own songs. He saved his allowance until he could buy a John Denver song book (Dave's favorite performer at the time), and learned all of the songs in it within a few months.
It took Dave 4.5 years to get through college but he managed to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts. Highlights of his college career included the study-abroad programs where he visited and performed in parts of England, Scotland, Wales, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, and Turkey.
Dave's third CD of original music, "A Thousand Shades of Blue" was produced at Rockhouse Productions and released in August 2016, as a Central Minnesota Arts Board McKnight Foundation Artist Career Development Grant Winner for 2015.
In February 2017, for the second year in a row, Dave was selected to perform for the American Folklife Center for the Library of Congress, alongside Billy Bragg, Si Kahn, Las Cafeteras and Terra Lightfoot.
The 'Best Original Musician of Central MN', (Gannett Media), and newly signed by Handshake Management of Austin, TX, Dave performs a variety of styles on six and twelve-string guitar, from original folk and blues to old jazz standards and R&B cover tunes.
